toddler time: leaves are falling

Mystery Box: Inside our polka dotted box, we found LEAVES! How many leaves are in our box? 1 2 3 4!

Would you like a leaf to hold? I passed out pretty felt leaves from Target.

Hold your leaf up! Hold your leaf down!
Hold your leaf and turn around.
Hold your leaf up! Hold your leaf down!
Put your leaf on the ground.

Then we sang:

The leaves on the trees turn pretty colors, pretty colors, pretty colors.
The leaves on the tree turn pretty colors
All around our town!

The leaves on the trees come tumbling down…
The leaves on the ground go swish swish swish…

Books We Read:
Mouse’s First Fall- first group only
Hello Fall- both groups

Puppet Song: Grey Squirrel, Grey Squirrel, Swish Your Bushy Tail.

First, I introduced Mr Squirrel and let everyone come up and pet his soft fur & fluffy tail.
Then we sang the song.

Flannel Board: Five Little Leaves in a Tall Tall Tree with felt tree

5 little leaves in the tall tall tree
As bright and pretty as they can be
Along came the wind (everyone BLOW!)
Blowing all around
And one bright leaf
Fell to the ground.

Four little leaves…
ETC...

Craft: Leaf People

I precut leaves in autumn colors for the kids to color. We taped on paper strip arms & straw arms then attached everything to a half of a paper towel tube to make it more of a puppet and easier to hold on to. Everyone LOVED the leaf people, each one was unique & different! I encouraged everyone to make their person however they chose.

We had TWO perfectly sized groups today, it was amazing!!
