flannel friday: ten little bunnies

A couple of months ago, I fell in love with the Ten Little Fingers song on Jbrary and we started singing it almost every week at Baby & Me. So with spring on the way, I thought why not substitute bunnies? I found these adorable Pier One bunny puppet gloves on ebay, but you could easily make your own from felt or clipart.

I have 1, I have 2, I have 3 little bunnies
I have 4, I have 5, I have 6 little bunnies
I have 7, I have 8, I have 9 little bunnies
10 little bunnies on my hands!

They can hop, they can hop, they can hop – in the morning!
(move hands up and down)

They can hop, they can hop, they can hop – in the evening!
They can hop, they can hop, they can hop – in the moonlight!
10 little bunnies on my hands!

They can dance, they can dance, they can dance – in the morning!
(wiggle fingers)

They can dance, they can dance, they can dance – in the evening!
They can dance, they can dance, they can dance – in the moonlight!
10 little bunnies on my hands!

This idea could also be adapted for other seasons and themes, with pumpkins in the fall or snowflakes in the winter!

I brought these bunnies to a preschool a couple of weeks ago and after the counting verse, I would ask the kids what else our bunnies could do. The answers were mostly things like hop or eat carrots so we would try to make our bunnies do those actions. One little girl suggested our bunnies sleep and I loved that idea so much. (Actually, at first I was kinda jealous that I didn’t think of that one!) So now we end the rhyme by singing our bunnies to sleep very softly as I slowly remove my bunny gloves and put them away. They can sleep, they can sleep, they can sleep…
