toddler time: owls in love

Mystery Box: Inside our yellow box, we found a mailbox! What color is it? Should we see what’s in the mailbox? Valentines!!!

The mailbox was a Target dollar bin purchase!

We handed out little pink valentines to all the kids and sang this song:

HEARTS ON THE MOVE
(found HERE)
(tune: "He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands")
Wave your valentine In the air.
Wave your valentine In the air.
Wave your valentine In the air.
Wave your valentine in the air.

Put your valentine On your nose.
Put your valentine On your nose.
Put your valentine On your nose.
Put your valentine on your nose.

Repeat the last verse with other body parts; we did knee and head.
Then, I told the kids to give their valentine to someone special, maybe to their "grown up" or to a friend.

Give a valentine to a friend.
Give a valentine to a friend.
Give a valentine to a friend.
Give a valentine to a friend…

Books We Read:

Flannel Board: Five Little Owls on Valentine Night

5 Little Owls

5 little owls on Valentine night. 5 little owls are quite a sight.

5 little owls, Are you keeping score? One flew away! And then there were 4.

4 little owls, Happy as can be, One flew away! Then there were 3.

3 little owls calling "Whoo! Whoo!" One flew away! And that left two.

2 little owls having lots of fun. One flew away! And that left 1.

1 little owl, We are almost done. He flew away! And that left none.

Puppet Song (tune : The Wheels on the Bus)

The owl in the tree says whoo whoo whoo, whoo whoo whoo, whoo whoo whoo
The owl in the tree says whoo whoo whoo, whooooo loves me?

The bee in the garden says buzz buzz buzz buzz, buzz buzz buzz, buzz buzz buzz

The bee in the garden says buzz buzz buzz – please bee mine!

The cat in the house says purr purr purr, purr purr purr, purr purr purr

The cat in the house says purr purr purr- you’re a purr-fect friend!

The frog in the pond goes hop hop hop, hop hop hop, hop hop hop

The frog in the pond goes hop hop hop, hoppy valentine’s day!

Craft: Valentine Owl Decorations

I used copy & paste to make these cute little owl circles for the kids to color. We decorated the front and the back with hearts, owls and doilies from Michael’s. Then we taped on a red ribbon for hanging.

A fun day! Valentine's has always been one of my favorite holidays. We had two groups of about 12-14 kids on another bitterly cold morning, so not too crowded. I loved today's songs and craft as well as my flannel board. The books worked well, too.

Cute story: one of the mom's that i've known for a looonngg time told me that on the way to the library her son told her that he likes Ms. Amy. "She is cute," he said!!! LOLOL!
