toddler time: pumpkin patch

Our toddler theme today was PUMPKINS!

Mystery Box: Inside our yellow box, we found a pumpkin! What color is our pumpkin? orange!

We passed our orange cardstock pumpkin puppets to each child for our next rhyme:
Pumpkins up! Pumpkins down! Hold your pumpkin & turn around.
Pumpkins up! Pumpkins down! Put your pumpkin on the ground.

Books We Read:
Duck & Goose Find a Pumpkin- Hills
Pumpkin Faces – Rose
Jack and Jill- Yoon

Fun Pumpkin Rhymes:

Pumpkin, Pumpkin (tune: Twinkle Twinkle)
Pumpkin, Pumpkin on the ground
How'd you get so big and round?
Once you were a seed so small
Now you are a great big ball!

Pumpkin, Pumpkin on the ground
How'd you get so big and round?

Pumpkin, Pumpkin
Pumpkin, Pumpkin, turn around
Pumpkin, Pumpkin, touch the ground
Pumpkin, Pumpkin, grow on the vine
Pumpkin, Pumpkin, you're all mine!

Flannel Story: Five Little Pumpkins

You can't go wrong with this beloved fingerplay. It's a CLASSIC!

I start off with plain pumpkins and as we go thru the rhyme, I turn the pumpkins over one by one to reveal jack-o-lantern faces!

The fence was a last minute addition and I love it!

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "oh my it's getting late."
The second one said, "there are bats in the air."
The third one said, "but we don't care!"
The fourth one said, "let's run and run and run."
The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun!"
Ooooh went the wind
And out went the lights
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

Craft:
We made these adorable pumpkin puppets! I cut out the pumpkin shapes from orange construction paper. We decorated with googly eyes and pom pom noses then glued them to paper lunch bags. Then, we decorated with cute Halloween stickers. A great craft!!!
