toddler time: bath time

Our theme for today’s Toddler Time program was BATHTIME!

Mystery Box:
Inside the yellow box, we found a yellow rubber duckie!

Books We Read:
Maisy Takes a Bath- Lucy Cousins
Ten Dirty Pig/Ten Clean Pigs- Carol Roth
If You’re Happy and You Know It- Carter

Other Fun Bathtime Books:
Five Little Monkeys Jump in the Bath- Christelowe
Tubby- Patricelli
Who’s in the Tub? – Sylvie Jones (for my programs, I think this one is better for preschool age; my toddler group is a little too young for this one)

Fun Bath Songs:

This Is the Way We Wash (tune: Mulberry Bush, with colored scarves)
This is the way we wash our hands, wash our hands, wash our hands.
This is the way we wash our hands so early in the morning!

I also blew some bubbles and sang Hello Bubble.

A few more good bubble songs:

There are Bubbles in the Air (Tune:  If You’re Happy And You Know It.)
There are bubbles in the air, in the air.
There are bubbles in my hair, in my hair.
There are bubbles in the air,
There are bubbles in my hair.
There are bubbles everywhere, everywhere!
                                      Jean Warren

The Bubble Song
1 little, 2 little, 3 little bubbles
4 little, 5 little, 6 little bubbles
7 little, 8 little, 9 little bubbles
10 little bubbles go pop ,pop, pop
Pop those, pop those, pop those bubbles
Pop those, pop those, pop those bubbles
Pop those, pop those, pop those bubbles
10 little bubbles go pop, pop, pop

Bubbles All Around (tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)

Bubbles floating all around (pretend to catch bubbles)
Bubbles fat and bubbles round (make a big circle w/ arms)
Bubbles on my toes and nose (point to toes; point to nose)
Blow a bubble. ..up it goes! (pretend to blow bubble; point up)
Bubbles floating all around. (pretend to catch bubbles)
Bub. . .bles fall. . .ing to...the...ground. (sing slowly &
sink to ground)

Flannel Board: Five Elephants in the Bathtub

Have you ever seen an elephant in the bathtub?

One elephant in the bathtub (hold up 1 finger)
Going for a swim (swim motions with arms)
Knock, knock, (Slap knees twice)
Splash, splash, (Clap twice)
Come on in!  (Motion with hand to come in.)

Count up to five and end:

…Knock, knock,
Splash, splash,
CRASH! Uh oh! They all fell in! (make all the elephants fall off flannel board)

I made little popsicle stick duckie puppets from yellow cardstock for all the kids to hold for this special rhyme:

Duckies up!
Duckies down!
Hold your duck and turn around.
Duckies up!
Duckies down!
Put your duckie on the ground!

I hand them out after the yellow mystery box, which really helps distract the toddlers who ALL want to hold or touch whatever is in the box. Having something to hand out calms everyone down.

Duckie puppets

I cut duckie shapes from yellow poster board. We glued on a felt wing and gave him an eye. The children did a great job coloring their ducks.

Duckies to hold and our rubber duckie craft

We had another great crowd this week despite another rainy day.
